Obtaining the certificate

In order to obtain the IGS North-South Certificate of Specialization in Sustainable Development, a full member must be in possession of his or her PhD diploma and have successfully completed at least 12 ECTS credits of coursework from the IGS North-South course programme (a limited number of ECTS from external courses can also be credited). 

This chart gives you an overview of the procedure for obtaining your IGS North-South Certificate:

 

To obtain the IGS North-South Certificate, a PhD candidate needs to:

  1. Complete at least 12 ECTS credits in the IGS North-South (see coursework requirements)
  2. Receive her/his doctoral diploma
  3. Fill in the transcript
  4. Send the following documents to the IGS North-South Management Centre (igs-north-south@cde.unibe.ch): 
    • Transcript of all courses attended  
    • Copy / scan of all course certificates or confirmations 
    • Copy / scan of your PhD diploma
    • Electronic copy (PDF) of your PhD thesis

The IGS North-South offers full and associate membership.

- Most PhD candidates register with the admission form.
- Only PhD candidates of the Faculty of Science at the University of Bern register with the learning agreement
